Why you need it on the job

No construction work may begin until this plan exists, and it is usually the first document an inspector asks the principal contractor to produce. Drafting it in the recognised format means the client and principal designer can sign it off without sending it back for a rewrite.

How it links to the standards

Where this template names protective equipment or a control measure, the equipment itself is governed by a published standard that defines what it must withstand and how it is tested. The full EN standards library covers each one in plain language so you can confirm you are specifying the right level of protection.

Frequently asked questions

When does the plan have to be ready?

Before the construction phase begins. It is not a document you write up afterwards to satisfy paperwork.

Does a small job still need one?

Yes. Every construction project needs a construction phase plan however short the job is. Scale the detail to the risk rather than skipping the plan.
