Why you need it on the job
An appointment that was only ever discussed in a meeting does not exist as far as an inspector is concerned. These letters put the appointment, the date and the scope on paper so the duty holder chain is provable from day one.
How it links to the standards
Where this template names protective equipment or a control measure, the equipment itself is governed by a published standard that defines what it must withstand and how it is tested. The full EN standards library covers each one in plain language so you can confirm you are specifying the right level of protection.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the appointment have to be in writing?
Because the duties transfer with it. Without a written appointment the client retains the duties by default.
When should the appointments be made?
As soon as it is known that more than one contractor will be involved, and before design or construction work starts.
