What is the difference between restraint and fall arrest?

Restraint physically prevents a worker from reaching a fall hazard at all, while fall arrest allows movement into a position where a fall is possible but stops the fall after it has started, within a calculated clearance distance.

Why does an anchor's rating matter so much?

An anchor must be rated and positioned for the specific type of load and direction it will actually see in a fall, and an anchor rated to EN 795 is verified for that job in a way an improvised anchor point is not.

What must exist before anyone works at height with fall-arrest equipment?

A rescue plan – if fall-arrest equipment can be needed, a means of promptly rescuing a suspended person must be planned and available before work starts, since prolonged suspension itself carries real medical risk.

Can a lanyard and a running line be used interchangeably?

No, each fall protection component is designed for a specific role in the system, and substituting one for the other can invalidate the system's rated performance.
