About Course

Video lecture: Lifting Operations and Rigging (8 minutes). Watch it before you start the lessons.

What actually rates a lift — the sling, the angle it hangs at, the hitch, the shackle and the lifting point — then the load itself, the exclusion zone around it, and the plan and signals that hold the whole operation together.

What Will You Learn?

  • Choose a sling material from what the load will do to it, not from what is nearest
  • Read a sling label and explain why one sling carries several working load limits
  • Explain how leg angle multiplies the tension in every leg of a sling
  • Select between a straight, choke and basket hitch, and state what each one costs
  • Withdraw a damaged sling, chain or shackle against the right discard criteria
  • Find the centre of gravity, size an exclusion zone, and say who may stop a lift
